I produced this quidditch-themed piece as a gift for a friend and as a final project for one of my classes. It incorporates 3 different CNC manufacturing processes: CNC milling, CNC engraving, and 3D printing.

The metal base was modeled in NX. The model was used to generate gcode for a CNC Haas 3-axis mill which machined the part from an aluminum blank. The hanger and broom were modeled in Solidworks and then 3D printed on a Makerbot. Finally, the nameplate was engraved into painted plastic on a CNC router. This was the hardest part to get right, and it required several trials to get the right cutting depth on the engraving tool so that the letters stood out but did not run into each other.
